History:

Assigned in 1935, most of the expressway sections of US 219 would be built throughout the 1970s. The current expressway sections of US 219 are from Limestone to Salamanca (although not limited access south of Carrollton) and north of the Cattaraugus-Erie County line near Springville. From the Pennsylvania border, US 219 followed Hillside Dr. and Main St. in Limestone, then its present alignment to NY 417 (just north of where the current alignment joins I-86/NY 17). US 219 then duplexed with NY 417 west into Salamanca. At Central Ave., US 219 turned north and continued along the current alignment through Ellicottville and Springville. In Springville, US 219 continued north on Cascade Dr., Springville-Boston Rd. (Erie CR 228), Boston State Rd. (Erie CR 227), and present day NY 391 to Hamburg before ending at US 62.
