History: |
NY 49 originally extended west to Fulton along a duplex with NY 3. J.P. Wing points out that the bottom line of the reference markers at the western end of the current alignment begin with a 2, indicating that (1) the route extended to Fulton, and (2) the designation was likely truncated in the mid-late 1970's. The Utica Rome Expressway section east of NY 291 opened to traffic in 2003. Prior to construction of the URE, NY 49 was routed along River Rd. in this area. |
Recommendation: |
With the possibility of extending the I-790 designation along the Utica-Rome Expressway, we recommend truncating NY 49's eastern terminus to its intersection with NY 46 in Rome. |
