History:

NY 374's original alignment stretched from the Canadian border to Cadyville (NY 3). It would be extended east to its current eastern terminus in 1973. The alignment west (north) of US 11 in Chateaugay was decommissioned around 2014 and replaced by Franklin CR 52. This section had already been under the jurisdiction of Franklin County, but it is speculated the truncation was done to reduce the amount of traffic crossing at the U.S.-Canada border about 4½ miles north of the village.
