History:




Present day NY 5A's original alignment was limited to the segment along what is now Commercial Dr. between New Hartford and Yorkville. In 1947, the designation was extended east along Oriskany Blvd. and ending at Genesee St. in downtown Utica. The eastern terminus would be truncated to its current location with the construction of the North-South Arterial (I-790/NY 5/NY 8/NY 12) in the mid 1960s.
