NY 5A was originally assigned as an alternate route to NY 5 bypassing Auburn to the north along what is now Cayuga CRs 10A, 10B, and 10C. This designation was in place from 1932 to 1937 and was replaced by the short lived NY 135 while NY 5A moved to its current location.
