History: |
NY 86's original alignment at the western end followed present day NY 186. In 1989, NY 86's western end was shifted to its current alignment, following the former NY 192 and NY 192A alignments. |
Recommendation: |
Renumbering NY 86 to eliminate the duplication with Interstate 86 in the Southern Tier. NY 86 would absorbed by the extenstion of two existing routes: NY 73 west of Lake Placid, and NY 431 east of Wilmington. Between Lake Placid and Wilmington, a new number would be assigned (We suggest NY 273 which has not been used since 1980). |
