2020 Utica Road Enthusiast Meet
Downtown Utica Update

Oriskany St. Reconstruction Project in Downtown Utica

The Oriskany St. Reconstruction Project in Downtown Utica was the first stop and focal point of the July 2020 Utica Road Enthusiast Meet. The project was completed in earnest at the end of 2020 with landscaping and cleanup taking place in Spring 2021.
These are photos of the finished product taken November 14, 2021.

Westbound at Broadway. The replacement signals include flashing yellow arrows for left turns onto Broadway from both directions.

Blade signs along Oriskany St. in the construction zone. The sign contractor only supplied the signs for Oriskany St. The City of Utica supplied the signs for the cross streets in their standard issue.

Genesee-Oriskany St. intersection, looking east on Oriskany St. Left turns are now permitted in all directions and are controlled dedicated left turn signals (Flashing yellow arrows are currently only active for traffic turning from Genesee St.). Blackout No Turn on Red signs are illuminated when the pedestrian signals are activated.

Historical plaque that was previously in the median between Oriskany and Liberty Streets at the Genesee St. intersection. The sign was removed, restored, and placed on the northwest corner of the same intersection.

Not included on the walking tour due to the heat, the ramp from Broad St. to N. Genesee St. one block north of Oriskany. The former ramp that fed into John St. from Genesee St. was finally grassed over after being permanently closed in 2015.

Heading west into downtown Utica, one is now greeted by a speed display sign (An similar sign had been installed eastbound several years prior).

The sign tells you to slow down when you are moving at more than 35 MPH.
