NY 339 was originally assigned in Rockland County, first along the NY 17 Hillburn Bypass (1932-35) and later along what is now NY 59 between Hillburn and Suffern (1935-37).

The more recent NY 339 alignment was assigned in Saratoga County from 1946 to 1973 and now carries the Saratoga CR 339.
